Brilliance on stage can be identified in certain moments, when there is no doubt that an actor is fully present. His response to the imaginary circumstance is created from a clear and specific relationship. The times when an actor is living truthfully through an event are when preset emotional responses manifest, in spite of oneself.
Actors try to display when they are deeply affected, whereas most people try to hide it.
The actors who create this chemistry with anybody or anything will be the actors who consistently work. Thus, it is critical for every actor to work on relationships on a daily basis by setting strong preset emotional responses, letting go of them, and allowing them to come up organically.
Whichever personal and fully realized Pavlovian trigger that you must set for yourself is nobody’s business, but your own. The beauty of relationship cannot be realized without putting in the time to seduce your imagination. Remember, it is not your natural talent that will lend itself to a flourishing career; it will be your work ethic that will carry your talent along for the ride, performance after performance.
